A Wide Range for Kiln Dried Logs for sale in Cornwall
Here at Trusty Logs we stock dried logs all year round for delivery and collection in Cornwall and Plymouth. We only sell dense hardwood, meticulously dried logs for use in wood burners.
The kiln drying process removes moisture from the log. This makes it ready to burn hotter than undried seasoned wood and suitable for use in pizza ovens and multi fuel stoves.
Dried logs burn hotter because of the low moisture content and produce far less smoke which is better for the environment, your pocket and the air in your house particularly if you use open fires. Oak is also our preferred choice for cooking and use in pizza or bread ovens.
We stock kiln dried hardwood logs in Ash, Alder, Birch and Oak.
Oak Kiln Dried Logs
For maximum heat output use Oak. Oak is an excellent choice for firewood because of its high density, slow burn rate, and high heat output. You'll get a consistent heat output with long-lasting embers. You'll find you use fewer Oak logs than any other kind of log and get just as much warmth.
You can buy Oak logs and learn more about why Oak is such a great choice on our Oak Kiln Dried Logs page.
Ash Kiln Dried Logs
Ash is another excellent choice for firewood fuel. Ash is a very reliable source of heat and burns efficiently. As with all hardwoods, Ash will burn slowly and is a great choice for an open fire because it doesn't spit. Logs only tend to spit when they have lots of moisture content.
All of our kiln dried logs are guaranteed to have less than 20% moisture (and are typically much less than that) when they leave the woodyard to be delivered.
If you want to burn logs that cost less try Alder or Birch. Oak and Ash are our two most expensive logs but you will get a higher temperature burn and they do burn very efficiently.
You can buy Ash logs and learn more about about Ash firewood on our Ash Kiln Dried Logs page.
Alder Kiln Dried Logs
For a slightly cheaper option, Alder logs are a great choice. Alder wood is still a hardwood so it will output more heat than a softwood log. The smoke output is low and the aroma of alder is pleasant whereas Oak and Ash don't really have an odour at all.
Alder is much easier to light too. This is handy when you're trying to get the fire going. Species like Oak and Ash are harder to light and need to be put into a very hot fire that's going really well already.
It's a good idea to have a range of log species in your store for this reason. When the fire is young, burn Alder or Birch and as it gets hotter and more established move on to Oak or Ash wood.
You can buy Alder logs and learn more about about Alder logs on our Ash Kiln Dried Logs page.
Birch Kiln Dried Logs
Birch (or Silver Birch in some cases) is another slightly easier to light firewood. The smoke output is a bit higher with Birch but they do have a lovely sweet aroma that Alder, Oak and Ash lack.
Birch also usually comes with bark on which is actually very useful for getting your fire started. We sell birch logs in easy to carry handy bags (60 litre) and this is the only wood species that we sell in this size. They are very popular.

Storing Your Firewood
Properly storing your kiln dried logs ensures they stay in peak condition, ready to burn efficiently when you need them. Here are some key tips for keeping your firewood dry and in the best possible state. This advice will differ from that given for seasoned logs because it's more important with kiln dried logs to ensure the moisture content remains as low as possible during storage.
Your Log Store
A log store is a small semi-permanent structure usually in the garden or yard that you use to store logs. They are typically open on the front but have a roof, a back and three sides.
While it's important to protect your logs from rain and snow, they still need airflow to prevent condensation. A log store with one open side and a slanted roof is ideal.
Avoid Contact With The Ground
Avoid placing logs directly on soil or concrete, as moisture can seep in. Use a pallet or a purpose-built log store to keep them elevated and dry with airflow possible around all sides.
Storing Indoors
If possible, keep a few logs to hand indoors. Allow them to warm through in the warmth of your home before they are placed into the fire. This will help them ignite.
Rotate Your Logs
Always use older logs first to prevent any unnecessary moisture absorption. Fresh deliveries should be stacked separately at the back so you work through your firewood efficiently.
Shelter
Situate your log store with the back to the prevailing wind to provide maximum shelter. If possible, try to place the store somewhere plenty of sunlight can reach the store. This really helps to keep the logs dry.
For maximum heat output when your burn your kiln dried logs, you need to store them with moisture in mind. The main aim is to prevent the wood from absorbing moisture from the atmosphere during storage.
The more moisture the log has, the more smoke it will output when it is burned. Wood burning stoves operate at their maximum heat output when the logs you burn are kiln dried. You want a nice clean burn.
